The theme launched by ROMATSA for the competition “New ATC TOWER for Cluj-Napoca Airport” takes into considerations the achievement of a control tower with a height of 42 m and an administrative technical building in Cluj-Napoca city in Romania.
The position chosen for the location of the tower is close to north-western boundary of the land occupied by the airport, thereby ensuring maximum visibility of the runway from the tower cab, the ATC becoming a visible presence, a reference landmark of the airport landscape.
The architecture proposed for Cluj-Napoca ATC tower tries to create a new image, a symbol, suggesting dynamism, energy in motion by means of general arrangement of angled surfaces of the structure and elements of the facades.
Glazed, transparent elements of the facades, the staircase and the elevator suggest lightness, floating sensation, thus building integrates into the airport environment. Seemingly unconventional expressiveness of forms leads to the idea of flight, breaking away from common image and conformism.
The proposed design complies with the conditions required by the tehnical specifications issued by ROMATSA.

Tema concursului  Turn de control nou pe aeroportul din Cluj Napoca a fost lansata de ROMATSA si presupune realizarea unui complex format din turn de control avand inaltimea de 42m si cladire anexa tehnico-administrativa.

Pozitia aleasa pentru amplasarea turnului de control se afla in partea de nord-vest a terenului aeroportului, astfel asigurand din vigie o buna vizibilitate asupra pistei de rulare, devenind in acelasi timp un simbol al aeroportului.

Arhitectura propusa pentru Turnul de control al Aeroportului Cluj-Napoca incearca sa se detaseze de imaginile obisnuite ale acestor constructii, incercand sa creeze un simbol, o imagine noua, sugerand prin modelarea si aranjamentul unor suprafete inclinate ale elementelor de structura si ale fatadelor dinamism, ridicarea spre inaltimi, energie in miscare.

Elementele vitrate, transparenta fatadelor, a casei scarii si a liftului, sugereaza usurinta, senzatie de plutire, cladirea integrandu-se in mediul specific de activitate aeroportuara. Expresivitatea formelor aparent neconventionale duce spre ideea de eliberare a energiilor pentru ridicarea spre inaltul cerului, desprinderea de conventional si conformism.

Constructia propusa respecta conditiile tehnice impuse de caietul de sarcini elaborat de S.A. ROMATSA.
